This is the Dog Tempo Mage w Rhonin Barnes Sept 16 he was playing on stream. It’s interesting to see a different Tempo Mage list doing well and there is some decent synergy in this deck. Obviously, the dream is to get a 1/1 Rhonin from Barnes, butt here are some other strong combos.
You’re almost going to get some Fireballs from Archmage Antonidas. There is less burn in the core cards than most Mage lists and more card draw to help you get to a big combo turn quicker. I like using Rhonin, the fireworks that go off with Flamewaker and Missiles is too much fun!
Give it a go and see how you do, it was performing well at high legend for Dog.
With Secret Hunter making a resurgence right now here is the JAB Secret Hunter Deck w Barnes September 16 he tweeted out here.
JAB is known for being one of the best Hunter players so it’s always worth checking out a list he tweets is working well. He does mention you can sway Yogg for Ragnaros if you want a more stable list.
This is the VLPS High Legend Secret Hunter Deck September 16 that has been causing a little of a stir on ladder. It’s proving to be a decent list, a little more refined than the earlier lists and is playable at high legend.
I just knocked out 10 games as I always do with a new deck to get an early feel for it and went 8-2, so I’m happy to carry on and try and push higher with the list.
I don’t like Barnes RNG in decks with too many minions you don’t want. It’s about right in this deck, and if you land a 1/1 Cloacked Huntress you will almost certainly have secrets in your hand to play.
Give it a go and see how you get on. I feel like the META is starting to hit a place where the strongest few decks, Aggro Shaman, Malygos Druid, Dragon Warrior, etc are pushing all the fun decks down. So it’s nice to play something a little different that actually works.
This is the Thijs High Legend Murloc Paladin Deck he was playing on stream at high legend ranks. Murloc Paladin has always been a strong deck, and I think Ivory Knight has taken it very close to being tier one. It really only struggles against aggressive decks when you don’t draw well.
This deck has some of the best board clears, loads of healing, card draw, and insane OTK burst potential. It’s a good deck to learn how to play, bringing this to tournaments you can catch your opponents off guard and it’s easily capable of winning vs a lot of tier one decks.
This is the latest Forsen Barnes Karazhan Tempo Mage Deck he’s been playing on ladder and doing pretty well with.
I like seeing a Mage deck with Archmage Antonidas and Rhonin. You don’t see these two in the same list often, but the synergy is insane if you can pull it off.
Archmage Antonidas is still a really strong threat. This rank one deck from Rooftrellen made excellent use of this card as a finisher.
Mulligan Guide for Tempo Mage
You always want all or as many of the following cards when doing a mulligan for Tempo Mage depending on your opponent:
- Mana Wyrm
- Mirror Image
- Sorcerer’s Apprentice
- Cult Sorcerer
Malygos Rogue has always been a deck on the fringe of top tier play. With the addition of Barnes it’s strengthened up a little, you have some extra early tempo potential and of course the chance for a 1/1 Malygos as early as turn 4.
Something I see some people overlooking is Shadow Strike. Don’t forget that this card can go face if you’re opponent is at full health. With Malygos on board you’re looking at the following burst damage:
Shadow Strike – 10 damage
Sinister Strike – 8 damage
Eviscerate – 9 damage
Looking for new Priest deck ideas with some of these new Karazhan cards? Try out this Kolento Karazhan Priest w Ysera Ragnaros Barnes Deck. Loads of awesome Barnes targets, plenty of resurrect, and a really strong Priest deck.
This is the MrYagut Karazhan SMOrc Hunter w Barnes Deck List. When you see Abusive Sergeants and Argent Squires on turn one you know a Hunter deck is built to SMOrc.
I miss the old Face Hunter decks that used to top out at 3 drops and were all face. Call of the Wild is so strong that even as an 8 drop it’s in all the aggressive Hunter decks.
Barnes is in the deck to try and bring a minion with deathrattle to the board, and some extra SMOrc potential.
Tempo Mage has seen a boost in popularity since some of the new Karazhan cards came out. MrYagut is one of my favorite streamers, and this is the MrYagut Tempo Mage Karazhan w Barnes he was playing on stream.
Barnes is as good as most people thought it would be. It’s not as effective in Mage as a control deck with lots of Deathrattle minions, but minions like Bloodmage Thalnos, Cult Sorcerer, Flamewaker, Azure Drake, Archmage Antonidas, and Ragnaros all have passive effects that can help swing the tempo of the game.
Try to drop Barnes later in the game when you have some spells to back him up. Don’t forget too m Barnes can only copy a minion that is still in your deck, so remember what you have and have not played.
General Tempo Mage Mulligan Strategy
I like to have Mirror Image in my opening hand, along with any of the 2 drop minions. I’m not a fan of Arcane Missiles as you’re just going to hit face trying to snipe a single early game minion.
If you had any doubts about secret Hunter being a legit deck this should change your mind. This is the Superjj Top 50 Legend Barnes Secret Hunter Deck. I watched him take this deck into the top 50 at legend and he was tearing up all classes.
The only minions you really don’t want from Barnes are Secretkeeper, Fiery Bat, and Houndmaster. So you can wait until you’ve played most of these, or roll your luck as there are 4 minions that aren’t too bad. It’s clever deck building because it puts the % chance of a good minion on your side.
There is a lot of decision making but it’s a strong deck in the current META and can take you to high legend for sure.
General Mulligan Strategy for Barnes Secret Hunter
Don’t hold on to any secret, you’ll jam your hand up. Mulligan for Secretkeeper, Fiery Bat, Kindly Grandmother, and King’s Elekk.
