Tempo Mage has seen a boost in popularity since some of the new Karazhan cards came out. MrYagut is one of my favorite streamers, and this is the MrYagut Tempo Mage Karazhan w Barnes he was playing on stream.
Barnes is as good as most people thought it would be. It’s not as effective in Mage as a control deck with lots of Deathrattle minions, but minions like Bloodmage Thalnos, Cult Sorcerer, Flamewaker, Azure Drake, Archmage Antonidas, and Ragnaros all have passive effects that can help swing the tempo of the game.
Try to drop Barnes later in the game when you have some spells to back him up. Don’t forget too m Barnes can only copy a minion that is still in your deck, so remember what you have and have not played.
General Tempo Mage Mulligan Strategy
I like to have Mirror Image in my opening hand, along with any of the 2 drop minions. I’m not a fan of Arcane Missiles as you’re just going to hit face trying to snipe a single early game minion.
This is the Chakki NA Summer Prelims Tempo Mage Deck we saw him play on stream. It turned his fortune round as he was 0-2 down, and it’s also one of the first times everyone has seen the new Firelands Portal card used in a huge tournament.
The card proved it’s worth taking out an Ancient of War and dropping a 5/4 Harrison Jones. Pretty good value for a 7 mana card and shows why it’s become an instant include in Tempo Mage decks.
This is the CosplayGrill Karazhan Tempo Mage Deck he was playing on stream today. AsmodaiTV has been playing a lot of Tempo Mage with subtle card changes. Mage has become a stronger, and much more popular deck since the release of Firelands Portal.
This list has one less Mirror Image in favor of more late game. It’s a slower Tempo Mage list than the standard builds, with Cabalist’s Tome and 2 x Faceless Summoners. You’re going to play Yogg-Saron most games, so start believing in the Yogg!
This is the J4CKIECHAN Karazhan Tempo Mage Deck he was playing on stream at high legend rank. Firelands Portal is a great addition to Tempo Mage and strengthens the late game, while having that important spell synergy.
This is a mid to late game heavy deck. I prefer the Tempo Mage decks with more burn and always have a better win ratio with these lists. This is a solid list though, even has Sylvanas Windrunner. So slow it down a little and play a more controlled game than a tempo burn.
There are lots of Tempo Mage decks now that include the new card Firelands Portal. This is the Thijs Karazhan Tempo Mage he was playing on stream today, and seeing him go past rank 100 legend with it, it’s obvious it is a really strong META deck right now.
Firelands Portal isn’t a crazy broken card, but it is strong. Thijs made room for the two Fireland Portals by taking out what would usually be Ragnaros, and Flamestrike.
This is a heavy burn Tempo Mage deck. So don’t be afraid to throw burn at your opponents face and hope to draw into more. Fighting for the board isn’t always the right thing to do, it’s something you need to evaluate in the game you’re playing.
It’s still not a really solid Tier 1 deck. So you will be relying on Yogg-Saron to do what Yogg-Saron does and save you in some games. But that’s part of the fun of this deck.
This is the CosplayGrill Firelands Portal Tempo Mage Deck he was using on stream to climb from the dumpster into the high legend ranks <100.
Firelands Portal is an interesting card that’s still being tested but does seem to have a home in the slower Tempo Mage deck lists like this one. This deck has Emperor Thaurissan and Ice Block, so it’s built for the longer games than the heavy burn Mage decks.
This is the Sjow Firelands Portal Tempo Mage Deck he was playing around with on ladder shortly after the new Firelands Portal card was released.
There is lots of play testing going on right now so there will be new lists all the time and ways to use cards being discovered. This is definitely what the META needed to shake things up a little, enjoy!
With the first few cards being released just hours ago in the new adventure One Night in Karazhan it’s fun seeing all the pros on Twitch testing the new cards. This is the Hotform Firelands Portal Moroes Tempo Mage Deck he’s been playing.
It will give you a good starting point to help build a deck of your own with the new Firelands Portal card. Looks like Hotform cut the Acolytes of Pain from his usual build to fit the new card in.
There is also a Moroes in the deck. Not sure how well this card synergizes with tempo mage….
This is the Best Tempo Mage Wild Deck to climb the Wild ladder. I enjoy playing wild as you get to use all the cards from all the sets. It’s more frustrating at times, but it’s also more fun in my opinion.
This deck includes Dr. Boom of course, along with Unstable Portal’s and Piloted Shredders and all those other high-value powerful cards.
This deck is more than capable of taking you to legend. I’ve played it while already being ranked in the Legend ranks and had a positive win ratio.
This is the Xixo Tempo Mage Deck with Yogg and Archmage. There are lots of Tempo Mage builds and I enjoy playing around with the different lists as Tempo Mage is always fun.
Archmage and Yogg in the same deck gives you plenty of win conditions. Look to control the board early with removal spells and drop Faceless Summoner for a good value drop. I like the inclusion of Polymorph, there are some really stubborn minions that need hard removal sometimes like an Earth Elemental or Ragnaros.
I will be playing some games with this list before month end and will update here if I have an impressive win ratio.
